What is wooden decking

Decking is wood that has been machined on four sides, so you don't have to sand it further. It is dried to 12-14% moisture. There is a tongue and groove on the longitudinal sides of the boards, which are used to join the boards together to form a surface.

Tip: Always allow the timber decking to acclimatise (at least 14 days) in the place where you will be fixing it. This will avoid unwanted swelling or shrinkage of the decking due to other ambient moisture.

How to identify the reverse and face side: The profile has small grooves on the reverse side. These grooves prevent the boards from twisting. The function of the grooves is thus purely practical, they are not there to spoil the design of the decking.

The covering width

The covering width of the decking is less by a pen, which is approximately 8 mm less of the total width. Example: For a 19x146 (thickness x width) decking, the covering width is 138 mm (146 mm - 8 mm = 138 mm)

Quality of wooden decking

BC-grade timber decking comprises 40% of B-grade and 60% of C-grade decking (graded according to the standard).

Advantages of spruce wood

Spruce wood is relatively flexible, strong and easy to work. It dries quickly after painting.

Another advantage of spruce wood is the favourable price of the material and its availability. Spruce wood offers an optimal price-performance ratio. That is why it is often used not only by DIYers and builders, but also by professional planners.

Installation of BC Klasik decking

To install timber decking you need:

subfloor battens,
anchoring material (staples, nails or screws),
profile strips,
saw,
a hammer,
finishing product.

1. The decking is usually anchored to the timber subfloor battens using nails, countersunk screws or staples.

2. The easiest way to anchor the decking is with staples. These make it unnecessary to drive nails directly into the decking. You therefore get a better design and do not disturb the decking. However, you can also use nails.

3. If you use a clear coat, you can paint the decking after installation. In case of coloured coating, it is better to do the coating before fitting the decking and profile strips.

Tip: Do not force the decking together and keep a 1 mm gap in the tongue and groove. The wood is constantly working and will swell with increased humidity/temperature and vice versa.

Wood decking maintenance

Tip: Facade cladding must always be at least 40 cm from the ground. If you are going to fix the decking horizontally, the groove must be facing downwards (this will prevent water from running in).

Depending on the use, you can clean the wooden decking with, for example:

Steam - a gentle method that not only gets rid of dirt, but also bacteria and viruses.

Broom - you can sweep the wooden floor with a softer broom, which can easily remove small litter and animal hair.

Water with spring - add a drop of spring water to lukewarm water and then soak a rag or mop in it to wipe the floorboards. Use water sparingly when cleaning so that the wood doesn't swell.

Cleaner - a dedicated cleaner containing polishes can be used to clean the decking.
