What is decking

Decking is a smoothly machined plank with a characteristic tongue and groove joint system, which makes it easier to install. Wooden decking is most commonly made from spruce, pine and larch. Decking boards are used to clad walls, ceilings and floors in interiors, as well as facade cladding in exteriors.

What are decking boards

Cladding boards are planed planks machined on four sides. Cladding boards are used to clad various surfaces both indoors and on the facades of buildings. Wood decking is a popular choice for cladding purposes, whether it is interior decking or façade decking.

How to measure decking

The covering width of the decking is less by a pen, which is approximately 8 mm less of the total width. Example: for a 12×96 decking (thickness × width), the covering width is 88 mm (96 mm - 8 mm = 88 mm).

Which screws to use for decking

When using screws or nails, it is important that their length is at least twice the thickness of the decking. This means that for decking 15 mm thick, screws 30 mm or longer should be used.

What kind of decking for soffits

When creating a soffit from decking that is suspended from the rafters, the spacing between the rafters is a key factor. For a standard spacing of 80 to 120 cm, 19 mm thick decking is the ideal choice. For smaller spacing, thinner decking can be used. If the soffit is first covered with boards or OSB, 14 mm thick boards are sufficient. However, you may encounter problems such as warping if you use too thin decking.

What kind of decking to use for roof soffit

Decking boards with a thickness of 15-19 mm are recommended for roof soffits. The ideal material is Siberian or European larch decking, which is better able to withstand weather conditions.

What kind of decking for the façade

For façade cladding, choose a decking thickness of 19 mm or more. You can choose from different types of decking such as Siberian larch, spruce, thermowood or pine. Each material has a different weather resistance.
